Sarsons Site, Bermondsey, London

When our clients acquired the former Sarson’s vinegar brewery site on Tower Bridge Road, the picturesque listed buildings were in a dilapidated state, and were interspersed with uninspiring modern buildings. The challenge was to find a way of regenerating the site and maximizing its value, whilst carefully refurbishing the Grade II listed central run of buildings and retaining the existing commercial tenants. The masterplan identifed sites for two new residential developments, a mixed-use conversion of the central listed range of buildings, and a commercial development on Tower Bridge Road. By building a number of pedestrian bridges linking the new buildings to the old, stairs in the new blocks could be used to access upper floors of the listed range of buildings, thus minimising structural alterations to them.
